Hiking on the path FA – LITHI
This is the road that connected Lithi with the paths of Central Chios. After a short time we will find a damaged bridge, at the point where the stream crosses the Fa as well as manicured fields with figs, olives and almond trees. The forest around Fa has burned down a few years ago, but the natural reforestation is impressive.
This cobbled road, an excellent example of road construction of the early 19th century, is one of the few that have survived in such good condition. It has transverse artificial channels for the outflow of water, while the support of the road from dry stone is well done and in the places where the slope is very steep, it is divided into two zones with the highest one stepping on the lower one. In the difficult passages the dry stone embraces the limestone boulders and, where access is required, the unknown builders even formed stone steps that protrude from the slope of the support.
Leaving behind the small plain of Fa, we now move to the sides of a ravine with a steep slope and in the middle of the route we get a panoramic view to Lithi and its port. The route begins to acquire a steeper downhill slope and two hairpins undertake to smooth out the change of altitude. As an alternative, there is a small path that bypasses these turns and shortens the route considerably, but its condition is not good and it needs attention in its search and use, as it is strongly downhill.
In this turn, the Turks surprised and killed the Macedonian warrior Cretan chief Perro or Perraki, while he was having lunch, on 13-11-1912. The route ends a little above the village stadium and is characterized as easy. In the village there are three cafes, while if you continue hiking for fifteen minutes, you reach the beach, where you can swim and taste delicious seafood. The long length of the route and its steep slope may make you tired during the summer. The area is not served by public transport. The Fa area is not served by public transport.
